PROJECT: Warsaw Pedestrian Bridge Competition

LOCATION: Warsaw, Poland

ROLE: Bridge Architect

YEAR: 2017

The capital city of Warsaw desired a bridge that could serve as the main connection for pedestrians and cyclists between the historic center of Warsaw, Old Town in the west, old Prague in the east, and the new development of the Prague Port. Due to the unique location and the historical character of the place, the principle of minimal view shed interference was adopted by introducing an attractive and unique architectural form.

The bridge converges from a basket weave tunnel, held by structural rings in tension, into an expanding cantilevered extradosed main span. This expansion creates a pleasant promenade equipped with an extended platform that provides users with uninterrupted panoramic views of the banks of the Vistula, the Old Town, and the National Stadium.
