PROJECT: Meziborska Bridge Competition.

LOCATION: Litvinov, Czech Republic

ROLE: Bridge Architect

ENGINEER: FINLEY International

YEAR: 2011

The design of the new bridge is focused on clean elegant lines, natural materials, and structural beauty. Our goal for this project was to create a one-of-a-kind structure that would enhance the spaces both above and below the bridge for pedestrians and motorists alike. In order to achieve this, we felt the need to gather an understanding of the desires of residents of Litvinov along with the long-term benefits the new bridge would provide. Our team designed a bridge that met the desired budget, could be built efficiently and rapidly, and could be admired by both residents and visitors for generations to come.

By using a channel-style superstructure, we were able to significantly reduce the depth of the bridge profile and cut the total pier count in half. This helped to maximize the view shed of the city and the mountains. Since noise was a major consideration for the residents around the bridge, we added native plantings that would serve as a noise barrier. This provides a green space above the bridge that is both functional and aesthetically pleasing.
