PROJECT: Sumner Street Bridge
LOCATION: Akron, Ohio
ROLE: Bridge Architect
ENGINEER: Osborn Engineering
YEAR: 2020
The University of Akron was in need of replacing an aging pedestrian bridge over Sumner Street to continue access to the engineering department. The new 100’ long by 30’ wide bridge is designed with concrete box girders to reduce cost and time during construction. The design reinforces the vision of the school with modern lines and materials without the need for decorations. Maxim was responsible for the design of all aesthetic elements including the materials, texture, pier types, and shapes as well as the stairways and aesthetic lighting.
